How much is it? Screenmaster is 100% free. Where do I download the installation file? Follow this link. What is Windows Media Encoder? Why do I have to install it? Windows Media Encoder is a Microsoft tool for encoding high quality audio and video information. The video capture part of Screen Master takes advantages of the functionalities provided by WME. Therefore, in order to use the video capture part of Screen Master, you have to have WME installed. If you do not have WME installed, you will be prompted the every time you run Screen Master. This prompt can be disabled through the Options window. Or you could bring up the context menu, and click "Record->Why is video recording disabled" menu item. You will be prompted to install WME. Missing mscoree.dll? You need the .net framework support to run screen master. Please see user manual for details. The application failed to initialize (0xc0000135). Press OK to terminate. This problem is typically caused by wrong configuration of the .NET framework. If you could, please try reinstall the .NET framework from here:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en I am running Windows XP pro with Windows encoder and .net framework but still am only getting a dialog box that looks like a DOS session without the prompt....no installing when I click on the exe. Do you know what is wrong? The file screenmaster.exe you downloaded directly from screenmaster.miroxia.net is actually a PERL executable which directs you browser to another location. If you use some downloading tools to download the installation file, this redirecting process won't work. Sometimes this redirecting process doesnot work due to your browser settings. This is why you get the dos session when you click on the exe file (which is only a couple of kilobytes). To download the actual installation file, use a text editor to open the downloaded .exe file, which is only a few kilobytes, and you'll get the real location of the installation file in there. How do I use it? Please refer to the user manual How do I capture a snapshot and send it to the clipboard? Capture the snapshot to a temporary file, set screen master to automatically open this file with your picture editing tool, and copy the image to the clipboard in there. Please refer to user manual for details about setting up external tools. I want to record the screen and use the video to train customers, how do I highlight mouse clicks? To enable highlighting mouse clicks, right click to trigger popup menu, and then go to Options->Capture->Highlight mouse clicks. Do you support video and image viewing/editing functions? Yes, and no. We focus on doing a good job on one thing: to capture video and images from the screen. Instead of having everything in our software, we leave the editing work to other professional tools. However, we make those viewing/editing tools (which you already installed and know well how to use them) pluggable to screenmaster so that you can start editing tools after a capture. Please refer to the manual for details about setting up external tools. I am tired of selecting files and configuring delays, do you support hotkeys so that I do not have to play with the configuration window? Yes, you can start and stop capture by pressing a sequence of keys. Please refer to setting capture mode in the manual for details. And also note that hotkeys are defaultly enabled, you could disable hotkeys through the capture page of the options window. Where does Screen Master store my picture and video files when I use hotkeys to trigger screen capture? Basically, you do not have to know where it is because after you capture a snapshot or finish recording a video clip, these files will be opened by the tools of your configuration (please see user manual for details about how to configure external tools. The default tools are Internet Explorer for pictures and Windows Media Player for video files). You can edit the captured files and save them wherever you want. If you must know, currently, these files are temprorily stored in your My Pictures directory, with names like smrandom0.wmv, .jpg, and so on. The number after smrandom could be any number depending on how many files are being used. For example, when you have finished recording one clip and are playing the recorded clip in the media player, Screen Master will create another file if you want to record a new clip while watching the old one. Just a reminder, if you use hotkeys to trigger screen capture, save your file somewhere else as soon as possible since it could be overwritten by your next capture, *without* any prompt. Why is the quality of captured pictures not as good as I expected? If you really care about the quality of the captured pictures, save target file as .bmp images first, and then use your own tools to convert it to the format you want. Why is it so slow when I am recording video from screen? Screen video capture consumes a lot of resources. Therefore, you could even feel that the screen capture action hangs your system if you are running a not-so-fast computer. Video screen capture performs best when you have a fast CPU, a large memory, and a good video card. Why is it even faster when I record the whole screen? This is something about the recording mechanism we are using. In order to capture a window or a user-defined region, the encoder first records the whole screen and then gets the window or region by cropping the full-screen video. Same thing applies to static image snapshots. You do not feel it when capturing snapshots because static snapshots are a lot faster to capture and a lot less resource-consuming. Can I change the way Screen Master looks? In the Options window, you could change your background image. All major image formats including JPEG, GIF, BMP are supported. Refer to user manual for details. Can I record a movie from media player or realplayer? Based on the expriments we did, although screenmaster works fine for capturing video clips from webcams, it could not catch the video frames from media player or realplayer. The reason is that we do not have enough resources to capture 30 something frames per second. However, if you have a really fast video card with a lot of on-card memory, you could still give it a shot and see if you can make it. Cannot create encoder object, quit First, check to make sure that you already have the latest version of .NET Framework and Windows Encoder installed. Then check to make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player installed. That usually solves the problem. Is there any technical support? Although screenmaster is provided as is, we do provide full technical support to all users. How do I contact the screenmaster group? You may contact us by emailing support, or you could visit our website Who should I report bugs or problems I encountered? Please email bugs.
